Celebrate Requiem Mass Nusabaruku.
On Saturday 14th of August, the community in Nusabaruka along with the Nuns of the Society of the Visitation, and with Fr Soloko celebrated the Requiem Mass at Nusabaruku.
The foundress of of the society, Mother, Vincenza, was laid to rest at the society's sanctuary in Italy.
Two general superior sisters (mother General Maddalena and her vicar Noemi) from the congregation of the Servants of the Visitation visited our Diocese from February 22 up to march 1. The visited Gizo, Loga, Vanga, Fishing Village and Nusabaruka.
They are happy to come and stay in Nusabaruka, with the people to assist them in their needs. They will send Two sisters in September (one nurse and one teacher) and two more in January 2019.
They showed us an example of joy, humility and availability to be with the poor and help them like Mary as she visited Elisabeth.
The fear of the 29 Bouganvilleans around Gizo did not stop them from visiting the people. Sr. Noemi and Sr. Maddalena were very glad to visit the children and their teachers.
The Sisters told the children that they are like Mary, live like Mary and travel like Mary to visit far away communities. They said that when they arrived here they found joy and happiness, as Mary was filled with joy when she visited Elizabeth.
Accompanying them were the three Salesian Sisters: Anna, Regina and Joana (FMA) who now run the St. Peter’s Urban training center in Gizo.
And help out at the St Peter Kindy
We have much to thank God for: as the Dominican Sisters seem to be slowing down in their presence, God is enriching our diocese with three new congregations, of of religious men (the Incarnate Word) and two of religious women (Don Bosco Sisters and Servants of the Visitation)
The People of Christ the King Parish, Voruvoru conveyed their thanks to the Holy Father, Pope Francis for initiating the Jubilee year of Mercy. It is timely for those of them who lived in rather isolated places where visitation and other necessary services are lacking to the world outside of them. It has also helped to strengthen their local Catholic communities as well as building the relationship amongst them. The pilgrimage created solidarity in communities. They extended their sincere thanks to Most Rev. Bishop Luciano Capelli SDB of Gizo Diocese for his support by enabling the Holy Door to reach their shore and other parts in the Diocese. Also to the Diocesan Team of Pastoral Animation (DTPA) Led by the Episcopal Vicar General; Fr. Jacob Qetobatu for their hard work and dedication. They live in an unpredictable situation where at times they are unsure of their place in the country as well as in the Church. They know that access to their location is rather difficult, and this has contributed to a larger degree in isolating them from outside communication.
Kongu, Ranogga Island, Celebrate with Diocese, Christmas, 2025,
The Ranogga Catholic Community boasts a considerable membership that is partaking in their Christmas celebration this year.
This event presents another significant opportunity for the families in Kongu village to serve as the host venue.
The celebration has provided the small community with a reason to seek out additional members who may be residing in that area of the island.
During the celebration, 10 infants and toddlers were baptized.
The community expresses gratitude to Fr. Dominic Soloko for commemorating the birth of Jesus (Mass), which serves as a reminder of the mystery surrounding Christ's birth, symbolizing His arrival into the world and the hope of salvation for everyone.
Youth Noro Involvement Praise.
The St. Eusebius youth were praised for their continuous involvement in events that kept them close to the church.
They continue to be involved with little ones in sports, and once a week they go around Noro Township collecting trash to beautify the main street.

They had their fellowship with families at their homes on Sunday the 7th of April, they visited the Noro clinic on the 14th, and were commended for their amazing Passion of the Cross dramatization on Easter Friday.

Parishioners also praised the members of the Good Samaritan Group who share in Guanellian Mission at Noro for their mission to provide a place for young people to connect them with God, develop relationships with others, learn about themselves and their faith, and develop skills for living a Christ-centered life.
Bishop Luciano Capelli SDB August Message
Dear Gizo Diocese collaborators, benefactors, people of God,
In my last message I only remember the most important things, I forget all the rest
What is the most important message I can leave you after these 24 years in the Solomons and 16 years in Gizo?
I came to Gizo right after the earthquake and tsunami of 2007 and I could notice the hardships you endured having been so affected... I saw the sadness in your eyes for being victims of such a great disaster. It was easy for me to look for a motto for my episcopacy. I saw my mission as one of ‘encouraging’, inspiring’ supporting you in your sufferings. “Lift up your hearts”... If I could only help you to ‘lift up your hearts’ you would have managed your sad situation in a better way and it would be a big joy for me and my mission as your shepherd. No one can help people to lift up their hearts if he/she himself/herself is downhearted. The faithful of the Gizo Diocese needed to stand up around a specific mission first individually and then together in communion.
To lift up the heart of others we need “courage” and “enthusiasm” in our personal life. The word “courage” comes from the Latin word “cor”, the heart, the center of passion for life, and the word “enthusiasm” comes from the Greek “En Theos” (with God) the motivating force of grace which supports all courage and all pastoral action.
- The assumption of Mary which we are about to celebrate is a perfect example of courage and Enthusiasm. She put her personal plans aside and she said that YES to the dream of God for Humanity... which entailed her courage to defend that yes at the foot of the cross. Because of this, she was awarded her assumption into heaven, body, and Spirit.
- My other model has been Don Bosco, the saint who inspired me to say my yes to His plan... till my last breath (his words)
- By this passion in the heart with the motivation of God’s Grace I tried to make my life His gift to you. I saw your pain, I sat, planned, and dreamt with you, and we worked together with passion sustained by God’s grace in building His kingdom in our hearts... trying to be a model to our youth.
- This communion of passion and motivation enabled us to put together some important projects for Education, Evangelization, and Health care for our people.
- As I end my commitment and pass on the Diocese to a young man from Guale allow me to invite you to give him the same support you have given me.
- May our benefactors and volunteers continue to journey with us.
- May the good Lord through His Mother and St John Bosco continue to give us COURAGE AND ENTHUSIASM and keep us united as we give priority to His kingdom. All the rest (including buildings and programs) are only logistics and technology
- With my blessings and availability if still needed.
