St. Peter's Kindergarten problem may be solved
Mrs. Dorothy Eria (Head Mistress St Peter’s Kindergarten). She is now doing her first year in the College
All 2 days the St Peter’s Kindergarten was closed for class since the class room was flooded and we lost some of the papers. Toys and other items were wet during this wet weather.
We experienced the same situation for a long time now which affecting our classes. The major problems which affecting this; is not proper drainages or outlets around and outside the cathedral. At ones maintenance was carry out elevating the basement of the building but we go through the same situation. Another cause which contributes is the elevation of the playing ground for the temporary place to worship (Tent house).

We have 3 staffs currently teaching our small ones, especially the other from the Seventh Day Adventist church who is very helpful committing her to make safety the environment for the children for the next day. With Mrs. Rachael Jio who is now the acting Head mistress while I am in the Collage.
However, our bishop is looking ahead to solve this problems and I believed the inundations we faced will come to an end. I thank Bishop Luciano Capelli sdb who really love the small ones for his commitment to improve the Kindergartens around our diocese. Since I took up position here, we felt as we are isolated from the diocese and we belong only to the parish, but now we felt that “we are the diocese”. Once our dream comes true I believed the situation we face now will be solved. |

Diocese of Gizo in the Solomon Islands The Gizo Kindy is at the bottom of a hill in Gizo. Indeed, the first Kindy was accidentally built in the path of a road, but later moved even though the then Government offered to deviate the road around the building! Unfortunately, the torrential rain frequently led to floods, as can be seen in the picture. This flooding inevitably invaded the Kindergarten, closing it each time. A generous donation from the European Union Development Fund has helped solve the problem. The EU is also assisting with roads and sanitation projects in other parts of the Solomons as well as new wharves. The EU donation has enabled the building of a protective wall. Now, you or I might build such a wall OUTSIDE the Kindy, however the innovative locals have built a wall INSIDE the building! This was recently completed and works very well. It also provides a seat all around the inside of the Kindy. Ramps have been constructed at the doorways, with steps down into the Kindy. Two torrential downpours have been totally excluded by the wall.

Diocese of Gizo in the Solomon Islands
Education
The focus on the Education Resource Centre has changed (about 2007) and it is now used as a Diocesan Resource Centre.

This photo shows the Education Resource Centre as it was being built
and then completed several months later. This is Bishop Chris Cardone OP in front of the building.
