Tribute to Sr. Veronica Benetito
The Death of a Religious Sister
Many spoke of the late Sr. Veronica Benetito Op as a loving, caring and welcoming Sister. These are the qualities that were seen in her life when she was alive.
Sr. Veronica Benetito OP is a Nun of the Order of St. Dominic. As an active and final professionalist of the order, she was also a teacher and pastoral worker by profession. She served the people of God in various parishes in the Diocese of Gizo regarding to spiritual and educational development. The last place she served was in her own Parish in Wagina where she was called to rest on the 26th August 2009. It is understood that Sr. Veronica felt ill with fever and pain prior to her death. On the 26th, her illness developed complications and while medical assistance was sought, they could not help her. At 10:00 am, she died peacefully and said her final words: “Oh! Jesus, I love you, help me!”
Her body was taken to the Maniaba (Community Hall) where everyone came to pay their last respect until Sunday 30th where her body was finally laid to rest.
The funeral Mass was attended by Stephen Kamoa OP, who was the principal celebrant. Also assisting Fr. Stephen Kamoa in the funeral Mass were Fr. John Tiroko OP and Wagina Parish priest; Fr. Albert Kalu. Members of the Dominican Sisters and Brothers were also present, including the Mother Superior of the order; Sr. Joana Tepitara OP.
The death of late Sr. Veronica OP left a story of fine example of life and work as member of the order.
May the soul of our dear Sister rest in Peace.
